You know your brand. You know your kaupapa, your people, and your community, better than any agency ever could.
We know behaviour change, media and creative craft. Put your skills and ours in the same room, working together the whole way through, and that's the Hemisphere difference.
We're a strategic creative and media agency specialising in behaviour change and social marketing — getting people to do something differently, not just eyeball an ad. We work across government and commercial clients, from Suzuki NZ to Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand, because the same thinking applies.
Some agencies buy into a different model. Send the brief. Wait for the work. Sign it off.
That's the order taker model. It's the industry default because it's easy to sell and easy to buy. It's also why so many client relationships quietly end after a few years, with nobody able to say what went wrong.
We don't work that way. We haven't for 30 years, and we're not about to start now.
We work with you
Ask most agencies what they do, and they'll tell you what they make: ads, campaigns, content, media plans.
Ask us, and we'll ask you a question back. What behaviour are you trying to change? Who needs to believe something different, and why don't they already?
That's not a sales technique. It's how we find out whether we're even the right people for the job.
Sometimes your in-house team already has the answer and just needs someone to pressure-test it. Sometimes you need a specialist for one piece of work, not an agency of record for everything. We'll tell you either way.
We've talked about this before: Cut the crap. Get to the gold. The good stuff rarely arrives finished. It needs someone in the room while it's still a scribble.
That's exactly why we don't disappear for weeks and come back with the reveal — the big ta-da moment where you see the work for the first time along with everyone else in the room. Sure, we'll build one of those in if that's genuinely what you want from us.
But by default, you're in the room while the thinking's happening. We bring the craft. You bring the years of knowing your brand, market and people. Neither one works without the other.
And we spend real energy building your team's capability alongside the work itself. Whether that's your people getting sharper at social media or learning to use AI properly in their own day-to-day, we'd rather leave you stronger than leave you needing us for everything.
An order taker disappears with the brief and reappears with the invoice. A partner stays in the room.
Thirty years of proof
Hemisphere didn't start as Hemisphere. We began as two agencies: Promotus, working the commercial sector, and GSL Network, working strategy and media for government.
In 2013 they merged to form GSL Promotus. In 2022, we became Hemisphere — a new name for the same instinct, sharpened.
Suzuki NZ has been with us through every one of those changes. This year we celebrated thirty years in partnership, across three names and two mergers.
A client relationship that long doesn't survive on one good campaign. It survives on showing up, telling the truth when the work isn't landing, and proving it again on the next brief. That's the kind of partnership we build with everyone, whether the relationship is three months old or three decades long.
Two ways of thinking
We call it ambidextrous thinking: holding data and creativity in the same hand instead of picking one.
Most agencies lean hard one way. The strategy shops distrust a good idea until it's been through six rounds of research. The creative shops sometimes distrust research, until it's been safely ignored.
We do both, at the same time, on every brief. The data tells us what's happening. The creative is what makes that insight land with someone scrolling past a hundred other messages today.
It's why our campaigns for Suzuki NZ and our campaigns for government are built by the same method, even though nobody would mistake one for the other. We go deeper on this in The Hemisphere difference if you want the fuller case for why we don't pick a side.
Working across every worldview (maybe)
We're Aotearoa's leading Tiriti-dynamic agency, in rangapū (partnership) with Big River Creative — embedded in our thinking from strategy through delivery. We don’t just pick up the phone for a cultural review after the ideas are locked (we’re an integrated team in our Wellington offices).
We're not a Māori agency, and we're not a Pākehā agency. We work in the takawaenga (the space between), because that's where campaigns that speak to all of Aotearoa get made.
That shows up in the work: campaigns delivered in more than 22 languages, built by a team with genuine lived experience across Māori, Pasifika, Asian and Pākehā communities.
And it shows up in how we're built — offices in Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) and Tauranga Moana, with client service, creative and media working together from day one. We don't default to Wellington-centric thinking. More on what that rangapū looks like day to day in Hemisphere × Big River Creative: a new era of Tiriti-led agency partnership.
Value in every relationship — not just the big ones
Here's our promise, and we mean it literally: we'll understand your business, we'll be easy to work with, we'll listen and take action, we'll deliver strategic and creative excellence, and we'll deliver results that matter to you.
We're New Zealand owned, and we choose the clients we work with as carefully as we choose the ideas we bring them. An order taker says yes to everything. A partner says no often enough that the yes actually means something. It's the whole point of Why people keep trusting us with the kaupapa that matter. Ask any client who's been with us more than a year (almost all of them).
Advertising can be easy. Just ask us. Ready to find out how? Let's kōrero.
